FAQs

1. Do I need both LCSW Exam Prep Programs now?

It makes sense to get both programs now and save $50! You need to take both exams to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California. 

2. How Do I Become a LCSW?

The Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) is the licensing board for social workers in California. Once you obtain your masters degree, you must register as an Associate Social Worker, and attempt the Law and Ethics Exam (you must pass the exam to be eligible for licensure). Candidates must complete additional coursework, and accrue 3,000 supervised work hours over 104 weeks. Passing the ASWB Clinical Exam is the final requirement for licensure.

3. Is the topic of Law and Ethics tested on the ASWB Clinical Exam as well?

Not only is it covered, but ethics is a foundational component of the ASWB Clinical Exam. While CA laws are not tested on the ASWB Clinical Exam (it is a national exam given across all 50 states), you will have a strong foundation in ethics as you enter into your preparation for the clinical exam. Our clinical program will also prepare you for how law questions show up on this national exam.

4. What is the difference between the LCSW Law & Ethics exam and the ASWB Clinical exam?

The LCSW Law & Ethics exam is the first exam required of Associates. The exam’s name gives away the content: it only tests your knowledge of the legal and ethical issues that guide our professions. The BBS requires you to pass this exam prior to renewing your Associate registration. The ASWB Clinical Exam also tests your knowledge of law and ethics, but additionally tests a wide range of clinical topics and scenarios. Each of our prep programs is comprehensive, containing all the content and strategy you need to PASS WITH CONFIDENCE.

5. What happens if the Clinical Exam changes before I take it?

We guarantee you will have access to the most up-to-date program designed to prepare you for your licensing exam. This means the materials you access will be updated to reflect any exam changes implemented between the time you purchase the course and the time you start studying. If we make changes to the content, it will automatically be updated in your online study center.
