Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) 

How to become a social worker 

Step 1: Complete a CSWE-accredited Social Work program
Step 2: Obtain your Oklahoma LMSW License
  • $150 application fee
  • Passport photo
  • Official school transcripts sent directly from the university registrar
  • Once the application has been stamped with approval:
  • Register for the ASWB Masters exam through the ASWB, registration cost $230
  • Schedule exam appointment with Pearson VUE
Step 3: Gain Social Work Experience
  • Accrue 4,000 hours supervised clinical social work in no less than a 2 year period
  • Of these 4,000 hours, 100 must be direct in-person supervision
  • Find a supervisor, and together complete the Supervision Contract and submit it to the Board for approval
  • Throughout the supervision period, the supervisor must fill-out a Social Work Educational Supervision Log to record the candidate's experience
Step 4: Apply for LCSW and Pass the ASWB Clinical Exam
  • Once hours are complete, apply to the Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Social Workers by filling out the LCSW state application, application fee $150
  • Once more, register for LCSW exam with the ASWB, registration fee $260, and schedule exam with Pearson VUE 
  • Finally, come back to TDC to utilize our LCSW Exam Prep: ASWB Clinical Level program to study and pass with confidence!

Continuing Education Requirements

Pre-licensure - Social workers in OK have the same CE requirements as Licensed Social workers.
License Renewal
  • Renewal Cycle: Every year by December 1
  • Total Hours Required: 16 hours
  • Must include:
  • 3 hours Ethics

Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)

How to become a Marriage & Family Therapist

Step 1: Earn Your Degree
  • Master’s in MFT or related field from COAMFTE- or Board-approved school
Step 2: Accrue Supervised Clinical Experience
  • Completion of 2 years of post-degree supervised work experience as an MFT
  • Must include a minimum of 1,000 hours of direct client contact
  • 250 hours must be direct client contact with families, couples, and/or groups. 
  • Direct supervision should occur no less than 6.25 hours for each 42 hours of direct client contact
  • A minimum of 150 hours must be face-to-face supervision, with no more than 75 hours of group supervision
  • Technology-assisted supervision shall not exceed 75 hours of the total requirement
Step 3: Pass Required Exam
  • Apply to take the AMFTRB National MFT Exam
  • Exam fee $365
  • Sign up for TDC’s NMFT exam prep course and study with confidence!
Step 4: Apply for LMFT Licensure
  • Submit supervised hours
  • Submit AMFTRB exam results
  • Submit official transcripts
  • Pay licensure application fee $200
