Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
How to become a social worker
Step 1: Attain MSW from a CSWE-accredited Social Work program
Step 2: Apply for the Master’s Level Exam and study with TDC!
- Complete the State Application
- Once cleared, register for the LMSW exam with the ASWB
- Contact Pearson VUE to set your exam appointment
- Study and pass with TDC’s LMSW program
Step 3: Accrue Clinical Hours
- Complete the Registration of Supervision and Contract for Supervision and submit to the Committee for Social Workers BEFORE starting your clinical hours
- Complete 3,000 hours of clinical experience over a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 4 years
- Obtain 4 hours of face-to-face supervision every 4 weeks
Step 4: Apply for the Clinical Exam and study with TDC!
- Complete the State Application
- Once cleared, register for the LCSW exam with the ASWB
- Make your test appointment at Pearson VUE
- Use TDC’s LCSW Exam prep program to pass with confidence!
Continuing Education Requirements
Pre-licensure - Social workers in MO have the same CE requirements as Licensed Social workers.
License Renewal
- Renewal Cycle: Every 2 years by licensure date
- Total Hours Required: 30 hours
- Must include:
- 3 hours Ethics
- 2 hours Suicide Assessment
- 3 hours Diversity and Inclusion

Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)
How to become a Marriage & Family Therapist
Step 1: Earn Your Degree
- Master’s in MFT or related field from COAMFTE- or Board-approved school
Step 2: Accrue Supervised Clinical Experience
- 3,000 total hours of supervised experience in MFT in no less than 2 years and no more than 5 years
- Must obtain at least 1,500 hours direct client contact in MFT
Step 3: Pass Required Exam
- Apply to take the AMFTRB National MFT Exam
- Exam fee $365
- Sign up for TDC’s NMFT exam prep course and study with confidence!
Step 4: Apply for LMFT Licensure
- Submit supervised hours
- Submit AMFTRB exam results
- Submit official transcripts
- Pay licensure application fee $100
Continuing Education Requirements
License Renewal
- Renewal Cycle: Every 2 years
- Total Hours Required: 40 hours
- Must include:
- 2 hours (formal or self study) suicide assessment, referral, treatment, management
- 20 hours must be formal (Online study can be formal if accompanied by certificate or documentation letter)
- 20 hours self study allowed
